The Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) plays a pivotal role in the overall development strategy of the country. It is the nodal body for formulating policies, rules, regulations and acts pertaining to development of the rural sector, and implements various programs/schemes aimed towards holistic upliftment of the rural sector.

The Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) plays a pivotal role in the overall development strategy of the country. It is the nodal body for formulating policies, rules, regulations and acts pertaining to development of the rural sector. The Ministry implements various programs/schemes aimed towards holistic upliftment of the rural sector.
The objective of the Ministry in collaboration with State Governments and Panchayati Raj can broadly be elaborated as to encourage, promote and assist voluntary action in the implementation of projects for the enhancement of rural prosperity, strengthen and promote voluntary efforts.
India has a substantial pool of technical graduates for whom exposure to real world project implementation and planning is essential for professional development. There is also a clear need to incentivize research and innovation applicable in the Rural Sector aiming the enhancement of the outcomes of the flagship programs under MoRD.
It is with this twin objective that MoRD is launching “Program for Action through Internship in Bharat” (PRATIBHA) to match opportunities. The program intends to give opportunities to graduates / post graduates and also keeping the different programs run under Rural Development with fresh and innovative ideas.

towards creating efficient and effective institutional platforms of the rural poor, and enabling them to increase household income through sustainable livelihood enhancements
Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY)
for diversifying income of rural poor families by providing wage employment and catering to the aspirations of rural youth
Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY)
aims to empower the villagers to make choices and provide them with opportunities to exercise those choices
National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP)
is intended to secure citizens with adequate means of livelihood, raise the standard of living, improve public health, provide free and compulsory education for children etc.

About the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD)
The scheme is open through your existing AICTE profile. Selection, duration and stipend are decided per posting by the rural body that publishes it.

The Ministry of Rural Development runs the country’s largest anti-poverty programmes — employment, housing, roads, livelihoods and skilling — across every district and 2.5 lakh Gram Panchayats.
Attachment to the department
Interns are attached to a rural body — a Zilla Parishad, Block Development Office or state rural mission — and work alongside the officers running the scheme, not a training vendor.
Who can apply
Students and recent graduates in engineering, planning, agriculture, rural management, economics, social work, public policy and data science.
Duration
Short attachments run a few weeks; project-linked ones run a full semester. The exact window is stated on each posting.
Certificate on completion
A QR-verifiable AICTE certificate, issued against the rural posting you were selected for and signed by the host body.
Compensation
The internship is unpaid by default. A state or district administration may decide adequate compensation for local requirements and the quantum of work, and any such amount is declared on the posting itself.

A dedicated window to internship opportunities in rural local bodies, villages and districts. It aggregates opportunities from across India on a single platform and lets graduates apply for internships in the domain of rural development.
Indian citizens only. Graduates, post-graduates, diploma, PG diploma and advanced diploma holders from premier institutes and universities in rural management, engineering (infrastructure), economics, marketing, strategic management, social development, public policy, governance, data analytics and finance.
Yes, if results have been declared with a passing percentage. Submit digital transcripts or a provisional certificate stating the course was completed and all subjects passed. Once the degree is awarded, upload a digital copy on the platform and inform the nodal officer at the interning local body or state.
No. The PRATIBHA process is entirely digital end to end, and applications are accepted online only.
After completing the application, a candidate applies to the internship requirements open at that time. Once screened and shortlisted, the local body or state may invite them to an interview, online or offline. Candidates selected through the interview are issued the offer letter digitally, and may accept or reject it on the portal itself. The offer letter also encloses a digital undertaking.
The goal is to connect candidates with opportunities across the country that improve their functional and technical skills. Shortlisting may consider locational preference, qualifications and academic record; the final selection is based on the interview with the local body, district, state or UT.
A government-issued identity proof (driving licence, election card and the like), proofs of academic qualifications, and a letter of recommendation from an academic mentor. Some opportunities also require a synopsis, which the local body, district or state specifies in the internship posting.
Yes. An undertaking stating all the norms, rules and the code of conduct is provided along with the offer letter, and has to be accepted to pursue the internship.
A document and video manual is available on the AICTE Internship Portal landing page under the Resources section. It covers registration, filling in personal details and applying for internships.
A template synopsis is made available on the platform. The questions are descriptive — what drew you to the programme, what you would contribute to the rural area, and how the internship fits your career path. The template is generic and applies to graduates from every course and stream. A local body, state or UT may choose not to ask for a synopsis at all, or to set its own questions.
The platform supports virtual internships. The nature of the task may still require presence at the premises of the local body or district, or in the field, so each posting states whether the opportunity is virtual.
Both online and offline, for the convenience of the candidate and the local body, state or UT. To request a change of mode, contact the concerned local body, state or UT.
All programmes, offices and local bodies connected with MoRD and MoPR. Other ministries may also be allowed to join on a case-to-case basis.
A PRATIBHA nodal officer is normally the reporting officer, though this varies with how the local body, state or UT structures its programme. Direct reporting queries to the concerned local body, state or UT — it is worth raising during the interview.
The Selection and Review Committee of the state reviews the progress of every intern periodically, and conducts an assessment at the end of the internship.
The internship is on an unpaid basis. The state or district administration may, however, decide adequate compensation according to local requirements and the quantum of work.
On successful completion, the local body, state or UT generates the certificate from the PRATIBHA portal. Students can download it from their own login.
