What the National Internship Portal collects about you, why, who can see it, and how to exercise your rights.

Last updated: 15 September 2026

1. About this policy

The National Internship Portal (“the Portal”) is operated by the All India Council for Technical Education (“AICTE”, “we”, “us”), a statutory body under the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

This policy explains what personal data the Portal collects, why, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. It applies to students, institutes, universities, employers, government bodies and every other user of the Portal, and should be read with the Terms and Conditions.

2. Information we collect

When you register. Depending on the type of account: your name, email address, mobile number, password, security question and answer; for students, your institute, course, enrolment or student ID number and, where you provide it, your Aadhaar number; for institutes, organisations and government bodies, the organisation's name, address, registration details, contact persons (for example the Head of Institution or Training & Placement Officer), and documents such as an ID card, logo or appointment order.

When you use the Portal. Your profile details, résumé and academic record, the internships you apply to and the status of each application, interview responses, offer letters, internship certificates, feedback you submit, and — where a programme pays a stipend — the bank details needed to pay it.

Automatically. Basic technical information needed to run and protect the service, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, recorded in server logs. With your consent, usage statistics through Google Analytics (see Cookies and browser storage).

3. How we use your information

  • To create and secure your account, including sending one-time codes and password-reset emails.
  • To show you internships and let you apply to them.
  • To let organisations and programme administrators review, shortlist and select applicants, and to issue offer letters and certificates.
  • To let anyone confirm that an offer letter or certificate issued through the Portal is genuine.
  • To pay stipends where a programme provides them.
  • To produce statistics and reports on internships for AICTE, the Ministry of Education and partner programmes. These reports are aggregated and do not identify individual students.
  • To respond to your queries and grievances, and to prevent fraud and misuse.

4. Who we share it with

  • Organisations you apply to. When you apply for an internship, the organisation offering it can see your application and profile, including your contact details, academic information, résumé and, where you have provided it, your Aadhaar number, and can download them for its selection process.
  • Your institute or university, for students enrolled with it, to track and approve internships.
  • Government programme administrators — for example TULIP, Indian Army, C-DAC, AMRUT or state government programmes — for the internships run under their programme.
  • Anyone holding a certificate or offer letter number, who can verify that document on the Portal.
  • Service providers that host the Portal and deliver its email, acting on our instructions.
  • Authorities, where disclosure is required by law.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.

5. Cookies and browser storage

Essential storage. When you log in, the Portal keeps your session in your browser's session and local storage so that you stay signed in. This is necessary for the Portal to work and is removed when you log out.

Analytics (optional). If you choose “Accept” on the cookie notice, the Portal uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used. Before any page address is sent, identifiers such as student IDs and offer or certificate numbers are removed, the query string is dropped, and IP addresses are anonymised. If you choose “Reject”, Google Analytics is not loaded. You can change your choice at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser, after which the notice is shown again.

6. How we protect your information

Passwords are stored only as secure one-way hashes, never in readable form. Access to signed-in areas of the Portal is restricted by role, so each user sees only the records their role permits. No system is completely secure; if you believe your account has been misused, contact us immediately using the details below.

7. How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as your account is active and for as long as needed afterwards to issue and verify certificates, maintain internship records, and meet legal and record-keeping obligations that apply to AICTE.

8. Your rights and choices

Subject to applicable law, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you may:

  • access and correct your information, most of which you can edit directly from your profile;
  • withdraw consent for optional processing such as analytics;
  • ask for your account and personal data to be erased, where we are not required to retain them; and
  • raise a grievance about how your data has been handled.

To make a request, write to internship@aicte-india.org from the email address registered on your account.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the Portal or the law changes. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. Continuing to use the Portal after a change means you accept the updated policy.
