About the program

This is a course offered by the Australian Institute of Advanced Technologies.In this subject, students are introduced to the fundamental concepts and processes of Data Science, focusing on the analysis of data. They will learn to use the statistical programming package R to perform comprehensive statistical analyses. The course covers modern modeling and solution techniques essential for solving decisionmaking problems across business, industry, and public services. Emphasis is placed on the importance of recognizing and testing model assumptions to ensure robust and reliable results. Students will research the application of data science in various organizational contexts to identify specific uses of data science methods. They will critically evaluate key characteristics of data sets, including data quality and profile, and use R language tools to conduct exploratory data analysis and create data visualizations for diverse data sets. The course also involves selecting appropriate statistical methodologies for realworld problems, implementing these methods to analyze data sets, and conducting tests to validate the models used. Additionally, students will analyze complex data science problems through data manipulation, visualization, and statistical investigation, critically evaluating the outcomes. The subject also incorporates the application of selfregulated learning concepts to help students plan, monitor, and evaluate their performance in tasks. With them we collaborate on projects sponsored by the Mastercard Foundation e.g., Cybersecurity Toolkit for Small Businesses and Amazon e.g., CyberFlex. We are also pleased to collaborate with Microsoft on the introduction of new learning experiences via the Microsoft Data AI Bootcamp. AIAT is also proud to partner with the Oxford University Society of South Australia on the delivery of the 2024 Annual Oxford Lecture.
