The Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI), a statutory body under the Department of Border Management, Ministry of Home Affairs, is at the forefront of transforming India’s borders into gateways of economic opportunity and regional cooperation. Entrusted with the development, management, and operation of integrated land ports, LPAI provides world-class infrastructure that ensures seamless, secure, and efficient cross-border movement of passengers and cargo. By integrating immigration, customs, security, and allied services at a single location, LPAI reduces dwell times and trade transaction costs while strengthening people-to-people and trade linkages with neighbouring countries.
Since its inception in 2012, LPAI has operationalised 15 land ports across borders with Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar, and Bhutan. Key land ports include Attari and Kartarpur with Pakistan; Agartala, Petrapole, Dawki, Sabroom, and others with Bangladesh; Raxaul, Jogbani, and Rupaidiha with Nepal; and Moreh with Myanmar. In FY 2023–24, LPAI facilitated trade worth INR 70,952 crore, enabled the movement of over 6.5 lakh cargo vehicles, and handled more than 30 lakh passengers. Over the past decade, trade through land ports has increased nearly fifteenfold, reflecting LPAI’s critical role in India’s cross-border commerce.
